We invite you to join our virtual HSHE speaker series event HSHE Pilot Grant Lightning Talks: Expanding Housing & Health Research on Friday, April 4, 2025 from 12 - 1 p.m.
At HSHE, we envision a world where decent, safe, affordable, and healthy housing is available to everyone. However, we know our state and nation are far from realizing that vision. We understand that living conditions and location impact many aspects of people’s lives, including their health. We also understand that inequities in access to decent, safe, affordable, and healthy housing persist in Michigan and across the United States. As a part of our work, we developed a pilot grant program to fund researchers who are interested in exploring housing and health related topics in order to get us closer to the world we envision.
During this webinar, we will hear from our three grantees who will present their work in the form of lightning talks. Kate Bauer, PhD, MS is an Associate Professor of Nutritional Sciences at the School of Public Health and will present on her project Unpacking Eviction: Understanding the Effects of Eviction on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Participation among Michigan’s Urban Families. Joe LaBriola, PhD is a Research Assistant Professor at the Survey Research Center and Faculty Associate at the Population Studies Center and Institute for Social Research and will present on his project Early Childhood Exposure to Residential Lead-Based Paint and Adult Economic and Criminal Justice Outcomes. Margi Dewar, PhD is Professor Emerita of Urban and Regional Planning and will present on her project Assessing good cause eviction regulation by examining eviction practices among Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and comparable rental properties in Detroit, Michigan.
